just got six hens want to let them free range must i clipp the wings or do i just let them out i have a7 ft fence but in two areas in the garden that are about 4 1/2 feet and i have a pool in the garden is this okay. the chickens will only be out when we are out .

Well technically free range means they arnt surrounded by any fencing, but from what you are saying then yes you should clip one of the wings on each pullet this makes them very unbalanced.

mine were 'free ranging' in my back yard with only a 4 foot fence they only left twice and always came back- not intrested in going too far from food- preditors would be your problem.

mine are not clipped, this has saved 2 of their lives.
