Yesterday at our small local farmers' market I got to get up close and personal with some sweet baby chicks! A lovely young woman had a large container of about 15 baby chicks, bantam white leghorns and RIR/bantam leghorn cross. I held the tiniest chick for several minutes and it fell asleep in my hands - so cute. I enjoyed talking with the seller and asking lots of questions about bantams. Of course, the kids at the market just went ga-ga over the chicks and I finally had to look away from the rough treatment by some of the children. She gave one chick away and sold one, but I wished she had sold them by pairs only so each chick sold would have a buddy.

For those of us that can't have chickens yet, these chance encounters are all we have. Just wanted to share.

I don't have my chicks yet either but I can't wait! If you want some, read the posts in this forum for your research on how to take care of 'em, get the stuff you need and just get some. I'm all set up now and my chicks will ship to me on May 10. Chicken love is good for everybody!

In order to have chickens, I'd have to sell my house and move to a more rural area that allows chickens and in this economy that just isn't going to happen. But I've been learning here over a year and I'm really taking in all the good information here. Sad thing is, I even have a separate small garage that is original to my 1910 brick bungalow that would make a good chicken coop if I could have a small flock here on this small city lot. I will be ready when/if I can move and have a small flock of chickens!
