I have a bantam hen with an apparent ear infection that I can't manage to clean/treat by the usual methods of softening and working the 'plug' out. It appears to be closed or skinned over.
Tried to gently open it with a small incision but it bled a littled and just won't budge.Antibiotics (tylan) did nothing. I've resorted to applying Prid drawing salve daily. Seems to help, at least keep it from getting worse. It's been 3 months now with only slight improvement.
She's otherwise healthy with no respiratory symptoms. Any suggestions (other than vet - not an option unfortunately).

It's in the ear but somewhat moveable. Metronidazole oral isn't available, but I have an old tube of topical that may be worth a try. I'd feel much better if I could get it to open up rather than risk oral ingestion though..
Inside the ear canal, behind the tiny tuft of feathers?
If so, you should be able to work the infection out with a drop of Peroxide to help flush out and then work on pulling the pus out of the ear.

It may be in the earlobe itself? If so, seeking vet care if that's possible would be a good idea.

If you are in the U.S., you can get Metronidazole online, I assume you think this is ear canker?https://chickenwhisperermagazine.com/health-and-wellness/ear-canker

Metronidazole powder, if you do a bit of searching, research, you can likely find tablets or capsules as well.

Yes, definitely think it's canker. I just can't get it to open up & express no matter what I've tried. Like it's developed a tough skin over the opening. I've treated a few infections prior to this fairly easily.
May just have to cut in with a scalpel but am a bit worried given the previously mentioned bleeding.
Thank you for the metronidazole link! Everywhere I looked requires Rx so hopefully I can get my hands on some.
