I have a hen I suspect has Clostridium Perfringens. She has green watery poop and has lost a lot of weight. I have been treating her with amoxicillin for a week with little to no improvement. Any other suggestions on what I can do to treat her? I am considering starting her on Corid, can you use Corid and amoxicillin at the same time?

Enteritis, of which is what is caused by C.perfringens and other bacteria, can be a result of a long-standing coccidiosis infection, so treating with Corid (amprollium) would be a good idea. I don't know how good your local vet would be to do a fecal test and a gram stain on some fresh droppings, but that might give you answers before giving more drugs. I have never treated cocci or enteritis, but many antibiotics are listed as treating enteritis. Most are avilable only by vet prescription nowadays. How old is your chicken? What dosage are you giving? Is your hen eating and drinking, since the dropping looks pretty green?

Sheis about 14 months old. She is drinking and attempting to eat. She has parrot beak so so she has a hard time with it. I have been syringe feeding her the last week.

Amoxicillin dosage is 100 mg three times a day, or 125 mg twice a day for a chicken. How many mg amoxicillin per ml? If her upper beak is too long, it could be trimmed slightly and carefully with dog nail clippers. Adding chicken feed to a bit of water to make a mash could make it easier to eat.

Hi there!

My chicken has been having these clear watery stools as well! Does anyone have a follow up to what happened to their chicken? Did it clear on its own when the weather was cooler? My vet says that this extremely clear watery stool cannot be caused by simply drinking too much water but I don't know what else it could be but now thinking it could be clostridium perfringens.

Thanks in advance! :)

What are other symptoms for clostridium perfringens?
