Is it ok to us a cloth towel in my brooder? maybe even cloth diapers?

I have used old towels before in my brooder. Just make sure that there aren't any thread strands sticking up or loose. You know how chicks like to pull at everything. The cloth diapers should be fine, nice and soft.

Awesome!!!! I have tons of them. I used them as spit rags for my kids. YAY!

I use waterproof crib pads for mine...they're sturdy, you can bleach the heck out of them, and though most of mine are fuzzy, the fuzz does not seem to attract them as far as picking at it. I prefer the crib pads that feel more like thin, heavy felt, no fuzz on those, but I only have two and haven't been able to find more like them... I also use quilted cloth incontinence pads like they use in hospitals and nursing homes. We use those for lining the whelping box for litters of puppies, too. I borrow them when I have new chicks and they work well. Same as with towels, though, you really need to check them for loose threads, tags, etc. But they work great.

Can't wait until I can switch over to shavings!!! Good luck with your babies!

I can't wait they should come tomorrow, hopefully in the morning!!!!

That's what I used, old towels with low pile, and layers of paper towels on top of that that I would remove during the day. I was brooding in a corner of my den and I couldn't stand having shavings blowing around.

At the end of the day, we'd take the chicks out for my daughter to play with them while I cleaned the brooder. I'd take out the soiled towel and wash it, and put in a clean one and clean paper towels for the night. Lather, rinse, repeat.

This spring I have a broody hen raising chicks outdoors. That's so much easier on me!

My baby chicks always love to cuddle up to soft cloth pieces in their brooder. I use different things from old socks to t-shirts and then just throw them away when they get soiled.
