Hi, I'm Kathleen. I've browsed this site many times, but just signed up because I have an ill rooster and I hope someone can help. I have posted in the appropriate forum!

I acquired my first six hens in February--already laying--from a friend; then I succumbed to the chicks at the feed store and bought six. I currently have three Leghorns (I had four, but one died this summer), one Barred Rock/mixed breed, a Red Sex Link, two Buff Orpingtons, two Plymouth Barred Rocks, and two Light Brahmas. One of the Orpingtons is a rooster, my Henry, who is ill.

I have only one complaint about keeping chickens--having to get up so early in the morning and to go to bed early. I'm not an "early-to-bed-early-to-rise" person, so this has taken some adjustment.

Anyway, here I am, such as I am!

Oh, I "liked" BYC on Facebook when I received my first batch of hens. So I'm familiar with the community. But I'm desperate for answers when my chickens turn ill, and it's hard to find precise ones.

I teach at a university, and my students love hearing about the flock. They are waiting for an update on the Roo! My colleagues love the fresh eggs. I have a waiting list!

I'll be in and out! But I've been hovering in the shadows for quite a while.

Oh, and the friend who gave me the first six hens has some chicks for me--cochins and/or bantams!

Does this make me a chicken hoarder?
