Heya's ima newbie to the chicken hobbie!! Coop built now all i need is to add the feathered friends!! Wanna start out with a small flock of 8. Would also like to hatch some of my own! So what are your recomendations i like the Jersey Giant breed and the Plymoth Barred Rock. Do you reccomend hatchery purchases? Am open to all and every piece of advise that can be offered!! Thanks in Advance!! Have only been on BYC for a day and am already ADDICTED!!

There are many breeds to choose from and they all have different pros and cons. Some are friendly, some are flighty, some are great layers and some are great broodies (Silkies!) I'd suggest having a look at this handy chicken chart and see what you'd like:
