Okay, I've been trying an experiment, hoping one of my ducks would go broody for me. I havent' been collecting the eggs, and they weren't laying that great, but now in 5 days, I've got a clutch of 15 eggs in one big nest. Normally they lay them just wherever, but, now they are being collective. no signs of broodiness though.
Will ducks only sit on the eggs once they are happy with the number of eggs in the nest?

or am I just entertaining myself with a nest full of eggs.

The desire to sit in an inherited instinct. Some ducks just never get it. You may need to give them more time since they are all laying in the same nest rather than each one having their own. What you can do though- is date mark eggs- so you can remove older ones if neccesary to reduce the risk of them going rotten or exploding.
