I recently integrated two flocks after a quarantine period of many weeks. After the first day one of the new girls had a foamy eye with swelling. I treated her with terramyacin and she recovered completely after 2 days. A couple days later an older (original flock) girl had what appeared to be a cold. A gurgling sound when she breathed, but no mucous dripping or swelling. She recovered within one day. After another two days a different older girl had the same gurgling breathing sound. She was in hard molt and recovered after two days. Another few days later a different hen from my original flock now has a swollen face around the eyes. No bad smells from the face with any of these girls. Thoughts? Pic is of the initial hen that had the bubbly eye/swelling.

Hi!

It sounds to me like you've got some upper respiratory infection running through your flock, possibly MG, but since yours are recovering so quickly with what you're doing, I'd not think it's anything highly serious.

I would be putting them all on vitamin water every other day for a week or two. We use Poultry Cell and just give ours that a couple of times a month just for a little boost.

If any take a turn for the worse, antibiotics might be needed but thus far it sounds like they're taking turns who gets it and they recover relatively quickly.

Also, the bubbly/swollen eye on the one pictured could have been she got pecked or otherwise somehow injured in that eye, and the terramyacin took care of it.

What a relief. Thank you so much! I’ll continue keeping a close eye and add some vitamins to their water and colloidal silver as well. I’m always nervous when adding adult birds and try my hardest to never do it. Was unavoidable this round. Hopefully we won’t have to do it again anytime soon.
