My breeding pair of bantom cochins haven't produced fertile eggs. Does the breed need the help of AI? They are show birds. Just beautiful! They are just a year old and the hen is laying well and Ive seen them being "romantic"! Thanks!

Hi, you can try trimming their feathers around their vents really close. If that doesn't do it, yes AI may be the only way. Most of mine do OK with vent trimming but sometimes when they get older the roosters have more trouble topping the hens.

Great advise! I will give that a try! Thanks!!!

Remember if you trim them you can't show them. We have the same problem with all of our show cochin's

It is better to hand pluck those feathers around the vent, one at a time.
If you scissor them, they are pokey and the rooster might not want to mount and breed the hen.

Remove the feathers under the vent of the rooster, and above the vent of the hen.
