I got 3 cochin chicks 2 weeks ago. I know it is to soon tell pullet from cockrel. They are all sold as pullets. But that doesn't mean anything from my experience. As I had gotten buff orpingtons all supposed to be pullets. One didn't grow tail feathers till way late. It ended up being a cockrel.

My question is do cochins feather out the same way if they are cockrels? As in cockrels tail feathers come in slower?

I bought them all on the same day from the same store. 2 of them have almost 1 inch tails while 1 you really have to look closely to see the tail feathers.

I'm not really sure I can help you in reference to your question, as I've never really paid attention to the rate they feather out. However, maybe someone will be along shortly that has a better idea.

If you are asking about feathers in regard to determining gender, the best way for Cochins is to look at comb and wattles. Cockerels will grow and color up super early where as pullets take forever.

Thank you. I will keep and eye on their combs and wattles. They are only 2 weeks old right now. A little to early for that way yet. I am kinda hoping it is a cockrel. Beautiful little partridge.

Here are some pictures.

The partridge (I think that what it is) is the one in question of being a cockrel. They are only 2 weeks old currently

Oh yes, definitely a bit early. In about 3 more weeks you should know.

He (Being hopeful here for you!) is a cute little partridge. Update with new pics here in a few weeks. Can't wait to see what he turns out to be!

Looks like my chick. :) I didn’t know what breed it was. So thank you! She’s the one front and center and they’re Ab 5 weeks old I believe

That duckling is gargantuan next to those chicks! Love it. 🤣

Your front and center chick there looks like a mix of some sort. Maybe try taking better individual photos and start a thread here asking about breed. 😁
