Hi!

I have three Bantam Cochin chicks. I was wondering if any special care is needed for their feathered feet? Cleaning or trimming of feathers? The feathers on my chicks' feet look different from their body feathers, more like their fluffy bottom feathers.

I had Brahmas in my in-town flock. The only care I gave to those beautiful, feathered feet was to make extra effort to keep the run's deep litter well built up so that there would never be any mud (we're on sandy, well-drained soil so that wasn't too hard for me). I have read that feather-footed breeds can have problems with mud drying in clumps on the foot feathers.

The birds preened their "snowshoes" just like their preened their other feathers, though I must say that my rooster didn't have the manners to wipe his feet before mating so my white hens always had dirty footprints on their backs. ;)

Thanks! I'm thinking that my potential rooster is probably not going to want to mess with my white hens, they are pretty aggressive with other chickens.
