I'm 99.99999999% sure I've got an over abundance of cockerels on my hands. But I'm praying I'm wrong because it means that out of 15 straight run Feather Footed Fances, I only got 4 pullets. 11 cockerels seems like more than my fair share. Lol
They're about 15-16 weeks now and all but one acts like a cockerel. I am certain this guy is a cockerel about what age do Cochins usually crow? .
This is the only one I'm hopeful about. It also developed comb and wattles early, but they do appear a slightly lighter in hue than the one above. IT also seems more docile and haven't yet caught it fighting with the boys. Seems to run from a fight. It's very friendly with me.
My big question is, with a Cochins super fluffy feathers, how do you know a cockerel? I can't really tell If there are pointy feathers anywhere?
On comb/wattle development alone, these are boys. I also have 3 Blacks that m almost positive are all cockerels, even though as very young chicks, one of them definitely had smaller legs/feet. About half the size n the legs as the other, but now their combs and wattles all appear about the same, whereas my Partridge Cochins, the two pullets have almost no combs/wattles and the two cockerels look about like my Splash and Blacks. I'm soooooo bummed! I can only keep 2 of this year's cockerels, and so. Have about 6 too many, I'm afraid!
Anybody have any better news for me? Or just let me have the bad news. Lol
