of my ten growing chickens, ages 7-10weeks, one of my cockerels seems afraid to get on the highest roost in the run. He is actually the oldest, largest, and is definitely in charge of the bunch. The 2x4 is only about 4 feet up, but he is the only one that will not go up there. I placed him up there with the other ones that were up there at the time, and he was terrified. Squaking and looking at the ground, it took him 15 minutes to get the courage to fly down. Is he afraid of heights? Lol. Will this pass?

Odd situations occur. It does sound like the rooster fears to be high. What breed is he? My silkies do not like to be high as they can not fly and getting down is a matter of falling.

This may change with age..

Henry is a Delaware, he's 10 weeks old. Funny guy took over the alpha position from my barred rock (also 10 weeks) over the last couple weeks, so when the BR gets up top he just gives him the stink eye from the ground.

I figured this was just a growing thing so not worried, but it's funny and I was wondering if it is normal.

Thanks for your replies, here's a shot of Henry

Probably just cause he's young, but I did have a roo (Also named Henry, lol!) who was a Polish and absolutely refused to get up high for his whole life. Here's a pic of my Henry :)
