I'm holding my super sweet, month old bielefelder cockerel on my shoulder, talking to him and stuff, and then he ripped my earring out of my ear. I tried to get it before he swallowed it... BUT.

It wasn't very big, I'll post a pic of the other one in the next post. I am REALLY scared that it's gonna hurt him. We do have a vet out here who will see chickens, but I'd love to keep that money in my pocket unless he really needs it.

He's four weeks old, and he (is sitting on my head as I type :lau) isn't showing any signs of immediate danger as of yet, but he only just swallowed it. Should I wait to see if he just poops it out, or get him to the vet before that?

Here's the earring

Oh, my! I have had that almost happen many times! But I agree with Fanci Feathers. I don't think you have much to worry about. My chix eat so many weird things that do not affect them at all. Just monitor him and hope for the best. I doubt a vet could do anything. It's not worth the expense. Good luck, and keep us posted! :)

All I'm worried about is the pokey. They eat rocks, you know.
I would just keep him in a place where he won't be bothered for a week or so. Maybe somewhere where you can monitor his poops

Yeah, that's my biggest concern. *sigh* I'll put him in a kennel and we can binge watch movies all weekend, I guess. :fl

Thanks for the quick responses, guys. :)

What? Other than he could peck your eye out, poop on you, lose his fear of humans and grow up to be a spoiled brat rooster? Yes, you are correct

Surprisingly he's only pooped on me like twice, and he's practically my parrot. :gig He shall sit on my shoulder as long as he let's me hold him, or until he gets too big.

I’m a new keeper. I let them sit on my shoulder, they’re 2.5 weeks now and I was wondering why they always peck your lips and eyelids? Lol. I know they do this to the mother hen too...
