Cockerel question

How old do roosters have to be to start crowing? I have a cockerel and I want to make sure there is nothing wrong with him, I think he’s the one that used to have splay leg and I’m not sure if that’ll effect him getting older. We fixed his splay leg when he was a few days old though.

Depends on the rooster. Some crow at a few weeks, others can be much older, I don't think my rooster crowed until he 5-6 months old.

I agree that each rooster is different. Some crow in the brooder while others take time to crow.

My lavender Ameracauna rooster started making the most pitiful crows at about 4 months old in answer to our main flock's rooster's crowing. He's now 10 months old and crows like the big boy BUT it's weaksauce in comparison. Big Boy has a very impressive typical crow that ends with a low growl, almost like a muttered "grrrrr". Little gray sounds like he's got a squeak toy caught in his throat but, hey, he's trying.
