I have expected it, I have tried to prevent it with techniques discussed on BYC, my cockerel coming into his hormones has been giving me the stink eye. He tried to sneak up on me once in a threatening manner and I chased him all over our walk in coup until he fled out into the run. He was not happy when we began working on the run.... we added a 40x40 free range yard. Today as I was putting the finishing touches ( few screws to fasten the wire to run- on new door to free range area) big red began to sneak up. He was flustered with our close presence to his enclosed run. I tried to shew him away and he rushed me. I was kneeling and stood up and yelled and he stopped. I then again tried to shew him away and he stood his ground. I stood mine. I closed run door. I didn’t want a cockerel, he was one of 4 that surprised me in batch from tractor supply. I rehomed all but him and left him with 11 pullets. He sealed his fate with me. I can’t have a rogue rooster attack one of the many kids who visits here. My brother n law is coming to take him to freezer camp. Wish he would have a different temperament, I know he was “ protecting his flock” and doing what hormones are telling him to do, but I can’t take chances.
