Hi, my fowl have to stay in their coops as bird flu is rampant at the moment and can have no contact with wild birds. In one of my largish coops I have 1 salmon faverolle 2 buff orpingtons 2 silkies and a cross bred cockerell. My buffs hate my cockerell Sesame. One buff, Puffin is most dominant hen, more dominant than Sesame. Today when I came home I was giving them treats I couldn't see Puffin then I noticed her squashed between the wall and the nest box, I was sure she was dead, she was fine that morning. Then I heard a small cluck and when I picked her up i noticed she had two bloody patches on her head. Sesame went for her when I took her out, I sprayed spray on her head and took away Sesame to stay with my ducks for the moment, he's really stressed as he misses my salmon fav Clarice. He's around 20 weeks old the rest are slightly older. Is it just that he is hormonal or is it his new attitude? I really want to keep him with them but I can't let them get attacked. I really love Sesame but I'm not happy with him right now.

The injured chicken needs to be separated with food and water. Treat her for shock by offering some sugar water or electrolyte water up to her beak. Later wet chicken crumbles and egg can be offered. Saline can be used to clean the wounds, and antibiotic ointment or chlorhexidene cream may be applied twice a day. Is she able to stand or walk. Keep her near the other chickens so she can see them. I might consider separating the cockerel until he is a little older. Or cage him with food and water. She may have resisted his advances and he bullied her. I would be careful evaluating him in case he is going to hurt others.
