Cockerels eye was staying shut?

Graphic eye yuk removed and flushed. I removed every bit of it.
He also had a prolapse so I did as I read and put it back in.It has not fallen back out just yet.Praying it stays.
Question?? I worked @ a vet and I have this eye med for one of my cats.I know it has been said some cases do not use steroid?.this one contains it.So should this not even be a option?
The eye is open today at times I can see it's irritated.

How is he doing?
I'd use that ointment in an infected eye.

He had passed away through the night.Thanks for caring. It happened so fast he was eating drinking .After I put the prolapse back that night he passed
