I have brown egg layers. Light brown, tan, speckled, freckled, but all brown since they started laying last July. Then yesterday I got a white one. There were some brown streaks and freckles, but it was a whitish egg. There was a little poop on it, so my wife went to wash it and it turned brown. As it dried, it turned white again. What is going on? Someone explain please.

Color Changer. White side is dry, brown side wet.

Odd. We have a few eggs that change colors when wet--one of them has a pinkish tint that turns brown when rubbed, scratched, or wet. Seems like a fluke to me--some chickens will just lay an odd egg every so often.

Looking today I saw a few posts on this oddity. I have noticed also this on eggs we have bought here since there is not much in the way of quality control. Seems most eggs here are plucked from under chickens put on a tray and then loaded on trucks to sell at shops or street corners. Will be interesting to find out cause. We get some rough shelled eggs, thin shells and brick hard shells here. The best have almost neon yolks! Im loving eggs here.
