Thanks

So sounding stupid I guess, what exactly do you mean by wild? Kinda like a cross breed? Are they common? Or are they just found in the wild.

It's just the common type of coturnix, nothing special about it. Most people call them browns or pharoahs. Sex cannot be determined at 10 days old.

It's not stupid asking, because there are often several different names for most if not all color mutations in coturnix. They can vary from country to country, and even between regions in the same country.
The brown color is often called "wild" because it is believed to be the color of the original "wild" species that the coturnix strain came from. Wild describes the color only, because who really knows what the original coturnix looked like 2000+/- years ago before humans domesticated and began selectively breeding them.

You can determine sex of pharoah/wild with some accuracy at that age by looking at the speckle pattern on the chest. Speckles right across = hen Speckles absent in the middle, with russet shading = male. I'd be pretty confident that was a hen

I think that was a typo on Friend2Fowl's end. I think it should have read...Can be determined at 10 days old. Because it can with 93.2598% accuracy by those in the know

There can be a few (Just Pat's) androgynous looking birds that are usually late blooming roos, but most brown/wild color coturnix can be sexed around 10 days, or 2 weeks. It just depends on your eye.

I have 8 - 14 day olds some have the rust color on their breast some are just speckled 1 or 2 of the smaller ones are not feathered out all the way yet so at 14 days I can almost tell I have an english white trying to crow that and one of the rusty ones they kina sound like teens with their voices cracking lol
