My family all live in Columbia. I would love for my mama to have a few hens for eggs.

I know many people around Columbia that have chickens. However, I do not know if it is legal for them or not.
I live in the county and there isn't any ordinance here. A lot of people have chickens out here in the county. I claim the grandfather clause!
The only thing in our county clause is the well being of the animals. So far, so good.

What's the best way to find out about local chicken laws in SC? I'm in NE Columbia (kinda near Sandhills). I live in suburbia but I'd like to have a few egg layers if possible

I also live in NE columbia (a few miles from sandhills). I just moved to town and would like some hens (no roosters) for egg laying. My question is: am I inside the city limits here? It seems pretty darn far from downtown Cola. but I'd hate to buy any hens then have to get rid of them.

Whoops. . .posted twice my mistake. . .oh well

Does anybody know a good source of hens in the area? I've talked to a few local online but most have flaked out on me (don't ask!).

I picked up 5 Courtinux quail the other day and may be picking up a couple of Silkie hens in a few days to help with hatching the quail eggs when the time is right. Still looking for 2-4 laying hens (maybe bantams. . .I'm not sure exactly what I need). Found a guy with young Plymouth Rock hens for $10 piece.

Any ideas or sources of hens?

PS: I've got a pretty small fenced back yard so I don't want too many chickens (hence my curiosity with bantams) and I'm planning to fence in some area under my back deck (along with some open air areas) for the chickens. . .I'll likely install a small coop under the deck to protect it from all the thunderstorms/rain)
