Columbian Rock Cross or??????????

Most breeds cannot be feather sexed. If they could then hatcheries would not need vent sexers or feel the need to create sex links. The title of this forum could also be reduced to "What Breed?" since eveyone would be able to tell male from female. There are certain crosses that can be feather sexed - a rapid feathering male is crossed to a slow feathering female.

No one can sex eggs either. Hatcheries wouldn't bother hatching out so many roosters if it were possible.

Are you sure these were crosses of a Columbian male over a RIR hen? Could it be the other way around, a RIR male over a Columbian female? That would give sex linked chicks - red pullets and silver males.

If you want to read up on sex link crosses and crosses that will result in chicks that can be feather sexed read the first post in this thread.

Mine looked the same I couldn't tell the gender of them, but this is what they grew up to be, the order form I filled out at the feed store said"Columbian rock cross"

I hope it's not the same picture because that's my run and chickens, lol, good luck with your birds, one of each keep your fingers crossed.

Not the exact picture. Lol. The only difference I can see is the picture at TSC had more black on the neck and tail feathers and the Roo had some Brown/Tan in the neck.
