Hello,
Just wondering if anyone could help me with a couple questions. Our Isa browns are just over a year old and I've noticed the girls combs are more red and starting to fall over a bit.

I was thinking the colour change is from the nicer weather, more natural sunlight and temperatures. But I am not sure, all I do know is the combs are such a nicer brighter red, and dont look so dry. I live in Canada just an idea of our weather. Thanks for your help!

Comb color and size is driven by hormones. There's an actual breeding season for chickens, hormones surge in the spring and wane in the fall, so your girls are in good breeding shape. The combs and wattles are visual sign to other birds, and especially any roosters, on the breeding condition of each individual. As fall comes on you will notice combs shrinking and color lessening.

That makes so much sense! Thanks for the help! Still somewhat new to chickens. It has been a year and we just hatched some. I love the little guys, and now I am learning a lot from everyone on BYC
