Our Golden Comet hen began acting sick about 3 weeks ago—standing in the corner, not scratching, stopped laying, comb pale and fallen.
I separated her and made sure she was getting a high protein chicken feed and water with electrolytes, plus doses of nutri drench. She is also in the heated barn although it’s not very cold here in CA. She is now acting completely normal, except, her comb is still fallen. It’s redder than 3 weeks ago but still laying on one side and seems floppy. Does the comb always recover after illness? She hasn’t started laying again but I didn’t expect her to go right back to it in the winter. Any thoughts about when/if I put her back with the flock? All the other chickens are vaccinated for Merck’s but I’m not sure if she is.
