Just got home. My 2 yr old Red Star Hen had her comb torn from the back of her head. I cleaned her up and it is still attached to her head but tends to flop to one side. I have only had my chickens for one year and have never been around chickens until I got my own last May. Sat in the coop and watched my four girls for awhile. The other three at this time are not bothering the injured one. However, I know that if there is blood the possibility is there. Should I remove her from the big coop and put her by herself? What should I do about the torn comb anything? It is not bleeding at this time. I have looked all around the coop and run to see if I could tell what happened. I just don't know. She doesn't seem to be injured anywhere else. I thought maybe a cat got her but it doesn't look like it. I'm mystified!

Maybe keep her on her own for a day or two just in case. Sounds like it should heal ok. Had to have a rooster's comb stitched once as he tore it badly but never did find how it happened.

Thanks HenFriend. I've been watching for the last four hours and the other hens don't seem to be interested. Comb is already starting to standup again. Will continue to monitor for infection. Thanks again.

She may have been trying to get under a fence or something and cut it that way. I'm glad she is getting better.
