G'day chicken mates.

Can the combs of two chickens tell you who is older and who is younger? For example, in the photo below the hen closer to the camera has more frills and details in her comb. Is she older or younger?

Have a wonderful day further,

P. S. Three chicks so far. One died and one has a wonky leg. And we're on day 24. Will have to keep an eye on the situation. I think only one hen is fertile.

The frills and details are just there, they won't vanish as the hen ages.
Generally older hens have slightly bigger combs and wattles, but you can't compare two hens to see who's older. That's because two hens are never identical, one might be born with a bigger comb and be the younger. Or she could be lower in the pecking order so have slightly smaller comb, but also be the older.

Once they become full size it is tricky to determine an unknown age accurately. Looking at their legs and their beaks seems to give a somewhat clearer idea as to age. But you might say this bird is over 3-4, or this bird seems to be twos. You cannot say, this bird is this many months.

I would like to see their feet, and walk, but I would suppose just looking at the picture that these birds are rather close in age, probably hatched the same year, or maybe a year apart.

From the picture, and her beak, I would guess that she is over 2. I can't quite see the other beak.
