Combination coop / children's playhouse?

My wife and I are looking at getting some chickens, and consequently building a coop. We are considering making one structure that would basically be divided in half. One side would be the coop/run, the other side would be a children's playhouse. Would the chickens mind having noisy neighbors? Our kids are 5, 3, with another on the way. I don't want to go to the effort to make the building and then find out that children at play are not conducive to chickens laying eggs. Any thoughts? Previous experience?

Thanks!

Well, that is multi-tasking! The noise should not bother the chickens. Mine live next to a noisy highway, and several barking dogs... As long as the building is really divided, you should be fine. The chickens are going to be very dusty- but if the division is a solid wall, that shouldn't be a problem. I don't see any issue with it.

It would be cool, but i don't know if that is the exact thing kids are going to want to look at. Sometimes it gets hot and smelly in there and a little disgusting. Just what i think every kid is different. Really it is your call you know your kids the best.

There was a post on here where someone made something like that. I don't know who it was, but I saved it. I plan on making one this summer.

You'll want to keep a close eye on the chicken coop part for the beginnings of any mite or lice infestation (which is a good thing to do anyway), but in your case, mites in the coop could migrate to the playhouse portion, which would be not be good for the children playing there.

One nice thing about this idea is when your children outgrow the playhouse, you can convert it to more coop space!
