I have 11 birds in one pen - 9 hens (8 that will be culled when I have time), 1 cochin bantam rooster and a leghorn rooster. In my new coop, I have a cochin bantam hen with eight 5 or 6 week old standard chicks that she's raising. I'm building the outside run for my new coop and plan on using welded wire from the pens I'm dismantling in the barn. I just realized that the older birds won't have a secure place to spend the night if I do that. (They free-range during the day. Mama and chicks are in the coop all day until I get the run built) Are the chicks too young to put the big ones in with them? I would most likely move them at night to make the move less traumatic. Thanks in advance for the input.
