I, too, use scratch to bring my chickens running. It's the only time they get scratch, is when I want them to come. That way, it doesn't become a normal treat, but only a come when you are called treat. Also, with mine, it took a couple months of constant training for it to finally kick in. The key is consistency, make all the variables the same every time so they recognize the signals.
