My Pet Chicken (www.mypetchicken.com ) is a thriving new business helping connect people with chickens. Our customers are backyard and urban folks who’d like to live a more organic, natural lifestyle. Chickens make a sweet, easy to care for pet. They lay eggs unlike anything you can buy at the store. They eat bugs and ticks. They’re fun. They’re “green”. And did we mention the unbelievable eggs? Of course, you BYC’ers already know all of this!

My Pet Chicken sells chicken coops, baby chicks, chicken supplies, and gifts for chicken lovers like books, artwork, tin signs etc. We also attract people to our website with lots of helpful, free information and resources for raising pet chickens.

Why do we need to hire? We’re growing! Our sales are doubling every year, and we’re looking to grow by one or two more team members. We’ve hired several wonderful BYC’ers in the past, and would love to add to the roster.

YOUR JOB, either part-time or full-time, as an independent contractor, will be to field calls, answer questions, place orders for clients, and follow up on orders to make sure they are fulfilled. Yes, you can do this from home! We are accepting of odd schedules, but require a minimum of 15 hours a week, and at least three days a week. We’d prefer to hire people who are available up to 40 hours per week from February to October, and don’t mind working fewer hours in November, December and January, our “slow season.”

YOU MUST BE a fast learner, articulate, honest, have excellent web/internet skills, and have a professional and courteous phone manner. And you’ve really got to be a good writer and speller: we won’t teach this, and we’re sticklers. Only candidates who currently keep chickens or have kept them in the past will be considered. (We want someone who really knows chickens!)

Young or old, college-educated or not – doesn’t matter! Our workers range in age from 16 to 75, and we like it that way. Everyone brings their own unique talents to the table.

YOU MUST HAVE a good, fast computer with a DSL or Cable connection. You must also have a quiet place to work from: no dogs barking in the background or children yelling during working hours.

WE WILL TRAIN YOU and teach you what you need to know to carry out this job. It is fairly straightforward, and you’ll be able to do it in your sleep once you get the hang of it. We will also provide you a free internet-based phone that you’ll plug into your computer and use for both inbound and outbound calls.

COMPENSATION will be $8 per hour to start, or more as required by minimum wage rules in your state. Over time there will be the opportunity to take on more responsibility and earn more, as each of our current staff members can attest. We are accepting both part time and full time applicants.

TO APPLY, please send your resume and cover letter to [email protected] with “Customer Service Position” in the subject line. We are looking to hire immediately.

Finally! That Poultry Science Degree of mine can be used!!!

Thanks! We're happy about it, too. In large part our success is thanks to the BYC community, so it all comes full circle. We've hired at least 6 BYCers in the past (I've lost count how many)...

OMG so tempting.... but then, do you have to commit to work every week? Is there time off available or are you strapped in? I'd love to be involved, but I have a full time job and also travel on occassion when my DB will care for my fuzzy and fluffy kids. Hmmmm....

What a wonderful opportunity for our jobless members!!!!! Thank you so much for bringing this information to BYC. I am sure there are several that will appreciate it immensely!

Going to Apply even though I am on the younger end of the spectrum. Thanks for the opportunity!

That would be neat to work for you but I'm awful on the phone. I'll leave it to those who are good at talking!
