This is my completed coop and run. Coop is 6x8 with three roost bars(approximately 216 inches) and 6 nest boxes. Original part of the run is 10x10 with 8x10 of it covered with poly roofing. All three windows operate for additional ventilation in the hot summer days. Both front and back walls have soffit style venting. That equal about double the minimum required ventilation. The coop itself is built entirely out of rough cut board and batten style. The extension you see is electric poultry netting by powerfields with a .15 joule solar charger from power wizard. I added above the netting 2 foot high chicken wire for both jumpers and escapees(more or less like a bumper for bowling) but my young birds already proved they can scale the height easily and the adults don't care to try to scale it. The fence itself is 82 foot long which adds roughly 420 square foot of space depending on how its laid out. Which from the original stretches out about 45 foot and at its widest(slight teardrop shape) is 21 foot. Sorry far the netting keeps my 3 dogs away the largest is 90 pounds so it should have zero issue keeping any ground predators away. I purposely enclosed those trees to prevent climbing intruders out as the nearest trees are around 20+ foot away and the branches that will sustain their weight are greater than 50 foot up. The "old" coop is still inside the new part of the run...partly because that thing was damn heavy and I planned on using it as a sick bay or broody bay but not at the same time.
In all for the lumber and the stuff to put it together and the fencing cost about $900 total.
Lumber was $340
Hardware and screws were $150
Posts and wire and other odd and end stuff I forgot $85
Fence, charger, wire, insulators and extra support posts for fence $375
Not what I originally envisioned last year when I started this endeavor. But can't say I hate it. The new coop by itself makes a huge difference!
What does everyone think? I know some might disagree with coop size but it is what it is.
