Compost Feathers?

The voles in our firewood stack use the fluffy ones for nests. So cute. I can just imagine them scurrying along carrying a big fluffy Buff Orp fuzzy butt feather.

Nice pic Rooster.

We found a mouse nest inside our engine in the car, it was made out of feathers from all of our birds, fur from my dogs, lint from my dryer, etc. It was so fun to go through it and see everything the little guy had collected for a bed. Cozy little mouse! I sure hope he didn't get roasted on the engine LOL

Most of my feathers seem to be in the poop pit under the roosts so when I rake out their pit I rake the feathers up with the poop and into my compost piles it all goes. The other feathers around just seem to disappear. I assume the wild birds probably use them in their nests.

Feathers compost quite quickly for me; they are reasonably high in nitrogen. So sure, add them to the pile.

I seem to have enough just blowing around the yard to probably satisfy the local wild bird population's needs
