Composting and Mice

I use pine shavings. Obviously there is poop. There is also a lot of spilage. My hens like to eject a fair bit of crumbles out of the feeder and onto the coop floor.

Right now I just have a compost heap.

My concern is that the spilage will help the mice population if it ends up in the compost pile. Thoughts.
 
I know there are no-waste feeders, you might look into those. Myself, when I notice too much feed on the ground, I simply don't refill the feeder until they clean up the feed from the ground. There's usually not more than a day's worth or so there.
 
Thanks donrae. I have done some of that but there is quite a bit of feed on the ground. Might take a week.

LittleMissEmily. Thanks. There are lots of mice around. Currently they do not seem to be a problem. We will look into cats if the do become a problem.
