OK, I was doing the DLM and the chickens dragged all the shavings into the run the winter through... so I fixed that so they couldn't do that and re-did the litter at some point... heneyways.... I guess the question is, how long should it sit before it is "composted" or safe enough to put in the garden? I cleaned their coop and run out today and got about 4 wheel barrows full of it. a huge pile. I mean, the run was 6-8 inches deep! and a lot of it looked really good. so........... I know the one in the coop smelled a bit ammonia-y, so that is a ways out probably right? how long should I let it sit for?

If it's exposed to rain and sun and all those goodies, I think it would probably be ready to use in about 2 months. You will need to "fluff it" every other week or so.

so veggie type stuff goes in it?

It is outside in the rain as we speak LOL! and it is going to be in a really super sunny spot

so you think 2 mos? I can toss it on my plants mid summer and maybe give my garden a little boost? I should have done this a month or so ago, grr!
