I sent two drakes out to a friends to live and after three days of being at their new home, one was attacked. Unfortunately I wasn’t able to check on him myself until late in the evening and it was worse than they thought. The main concern is that his wing was broken and it punctured through the skin making it a lot harder to deal with.

Am I correct in assuming that this is not something that can be corrected by just wrapping and that a vet or euthanasia are the only two options?
Nothing is worse than rehoming two of your babies then something like this happening within a few days and making you feel like you are the worst feather-mom ever!!!!! 😫

@Wyorp Rock @Eggcessive Do you know what to do with this poor duck?

@jaykayhuff since it is really early in the USA you probably will not get an answer immediately.
please make sure this duck is in a quiet and clean enviroment. Try to keep the wound clean, rinse and desinfect if needed.
minimise the stresslevel as much as possible.

now my personal opinion:
I don’t think this can be fixed without visiting a vet.
who will either set the bone and tape it, or amputate the wing.
I’m so sorry that this happened to your duck and this does not make you a bad duck Mom for sure.
poor duck! I hope she pulls trough...

It's very hard to see what's going on from the one picture. Is he able to keep both of his wings tight to his body, if not, do you feel the general area where it may have broke. I want to know if we're actually dealing with a wing fracture/wound here, or just a wound.

The white pointed thing below my pinky is the humorous that broke and punctured through the wing. In this picture I’m holding the wing out and the picture is taken from underneath. Unfortunately the person taking the pictures doesn’t know how to work an iPhone so this was the best out of 5.

Thanks. I told the new owner it was going to most likely come down to surgery or if he wasn’t willing to pay those costs then he will just have to euthanize him. These were just two extra drakes I hatched and needed to move out of my flock so my friends built a coop out by their lake so they could start taking my extra drakes over the years...

And no ability to pull up left wing all the way.

Given that he can't hold his one wing at all, it sounds like there was indeed either a fracture or luxation of the wing. The first step she should take is stabilizing the duck, set him in a warm, quiet, stressful free dog kennel. Some of the time if there is a fracture, the use of a splint or bandage is only temporarily, basically used to decrease any movement in the joint until surgery can be performed. I think she should see a vet. It does depend a lot where it broke, do you have any idea where it did?

Okay I figured as much but just wanted to make sure I wasn’t missing another option but considering the type of fracture I’m thinking it’s pretty much decided. Thanks so much!
