Confused about day 1 incubation.

So I just received my hatching eggs by mail may 8, 2013. According to http://aggie-horticulture.tamu.edu/...e-Cartwright-Incubating-and-hatching-eggs.pdf I should subtract 24hrs from the date stamped on my shipping label. Mine was shipped on May 6, 2013. So should i go by May 5, 2013 as day 1 of my incubation period? Also It says to place them small end down for 1 day to acclimate to the surrounding temp before putting in the bator. so at this point if i put them in the bator on May 9, 2013 did my 21 days actually begin on may 5 or may 9? Also is it better to put them in the hatcher in a carton standing up like they were in the bator, or to lay them down?

day 1 starts on the day you set them in the incubator

so if you pop them in the incubator on 9th then that's your day with hatch on the 30th may

different ideas are about the time though

some people say day 1 is inclusive if you set early in morning

or day 1 starts next day if you set very late in evening

others will say day 1 is day one regardless of time

for me when I have clocked the days with accurate time

I find that my eggs hatch perfectly on the hour 21 days in


oh and always keep eggs pointy side down as best as possible
