Confused about winter lighting

Quote:
I do the same and my chickens go to bed before the light goes out but then again my roost is a roosting box that is close enough to the floor of the coop that they can find there way up. I don't want to supplement light in the morning because my rooster would start to crow when the lights came on I tried it once I ended up outside in my pajamas putting him in a cat carrier in the shed so I could get 2 more hours of sleep and he wouldn't wake everyone up.

No rooster here! We have our lights at the other end of the day- from 5 am - 8 am and getting 10 eggs daily, on average from 12 hens.
We chose morning both because I want to gather most of the eggs early and because the hens are in before sunset and we like to let them adjust their eyes and get on the platform before it turns dark.
