I live in rural Pender Co NC and from the research I have done there are no laws in my area regarding chicken keeping. I have a hog/chicken farm a mile down the road and a large herd of "pet" cows across the street
I am looking into selling eggs, hatching eggs, and live chickens at some point in the near future. I read about the 30 dozen rule and I know I will be under that (right now I could only sell about 2 or 3 doz. a week and not have any left for me). I emailed someone about NPIP and I am waiting to hear back about the requirements.
What do I have to do to be legal with the state? I found this: http://www.ncagr.gov/vet/Licenses/eggdealr.htm but I cannot find the definitions or if there are min. requirements (say I only sell 30 birds/chicks a yr) do I still have to have a license? Should I just get all the licenses to cover my bases. I have no problem with $45/yr to avoid getting a huge fine and I am one of the lucky people who always gets caught so I would rather have my bases covered. I plan on attending some public swaps/ sales so I want to make sure I am all legal. Am I on the right track? Anyone else who does this willing to mentor a newbie? If anyone is local I'm willing to trade free farm help for some mentoring.
