Okay, so we have this very silly turkey girl, Ting. She is super social and everyone loves her. She is definitely the favorite for visitors, since she will let everyone pet her.

Last fall, we had a problem with her leaping over our 6' fence so she could perch on (and scratch) our cars. So I clipped one side of her wings, and she's apparently forgotten that she can leap tall buildings, because her feathers have mostly grown back in and she's still not leaping.

A couple weeks ago, she started strutting and displaying.

Well, now the silly girl has gone broody. But not on her own eggs. She still lays in the same pile as the duck eggs. She's gone broody on the GOOSE eggs, of which there are now 4, and she's still laying daily in the duck pile. She does not have a mate, so she might know that hers aren't fertile, but the duck eggs are certainly fertile. My male duck is quite frisky

and not very picky.

I can only imagine what those baby geese will think if Ting hatches them out! She's been on for about 7-8 days now.

I don't discriminate at my house. Anything that goes broody is subject to have any type of egg under it. I have about 15 eggs under a few turkey hens. I have allowed turkeys to hatch goose eggs in the in the past with no problem.

She will be VERY confused if the gosling head toward your water source and jump in. :lau

Good luck!

I'm sure she will be confused when they hop in the duck pond!!

She's been on about 2 weeks now. And she's not budging! She's such a sweet and social girl that it's weird for her not to come running when I show up. She's dedicated, for sure!

I have hatched chickens, ducks, geese and guinea eggs. Chicken eggs and duck eggs are not always hard enough and sometimes if heavy setting turkey she will break some of them, I have had turkeys that are not as rough with eggs that can hatch them. They do well with guinea and goose eggs and of course turkey eggs. One time I put 70 guinea eggs under one turkey and she hatched 100%. She ended up raising all the little ones too. I hope they do well for you. I just made sure I put the momma turkey when she was sitting in where something couldn't get her.

Yes, the turkey will be VERY confused as evident by this pic.

Before the hatch when the turkey didn't know that she was sitting on goose eggs.

After the hatch when the turkey saw that the goose didn't look like her. She was OUTTA THERE! :lau She left the nest !!!!!! :lau

So I have a new baby gosling. It was hatched yesterday. :)

That is so funny, Kuntrygirl! I'm glad you got pics of that, and shared them!

The goose egg shells are quite thick, and my turkey is not super heavy. I'm amazed that she's still laying elsewhere, then coming back to those goose eggs. That just seems so unnatural to me. And the goose comes in and lays her egg right next to Ting, then Ting scoots it under her with the rest.

I guess time will tell. I think she's got a little less than 2 weeks to go, if the first 4 started when she started sitting full time.

I use duck eggs to make sure the girls are planning to sit tight. Now that I know they are I will pull them and cage them in the basement with some turkey eggs. I would let them finish with the duck eggs, but they are too valuable in turkey rearing. The duck eggs can just go into one of the bators to finish.
