A woman on my local Facebook chicken lovers group posted these pictures yesterday. She had a broody hen who successfully hatched out most of her clutch and included in that clutch was conjoined chick of sorts. When she found it it was dead but it appears that it managed to pip and zip all by itself as it was completely out of it’s shell when she found it.

I thought I would just post the pictures here for those that were interested to see. I hadn’t seen one quite like this before. She said, and it appears to have, a single body/ head with 4 legs and 4 wings.

Wow, definitely a rare occurance here. Who knew such a thing could happen. I've seen when cracking open eggs sometimes I'll have a double yolk, and very rarely they look almost joined together. I'm wondering if that was the case for this chick.

Thanks for sharing!

That is what I am assuming as well, not so much an actual double holler but those occasionally ones you get where the 2 yolks almost make an 8

Does that even make sense?..lol

It could have been a glitch in the cell division process also. It sure would be interesting to open the chick up and see if any organs, ect have duplicates as well!

Yeah... I can be sort of a mad scientist sometimes...
