Hello there. I'm looking for advice on the topic of dubbing. I keep four pens at the moment - my main, bantam/growing, gamefowl, and rooster pens. In the rooster pen I currently have 1 Dominique cock, 1 Thai/Malay cock, 2 Silkie cocks/cockerels, and a Wyandotte/Cornish Cock.
They have a very decent amount of space - about 20x10 outdoors, 6x2.5 indoors, but they are still cocks, so I do see some aggression. No feather-picking or serious injury, but several of roosters have scabby combs, from what looks like fighting amongst each other.
I'm considering dubbing to fix this issue. I think they would be less likely to pick at each other if there is nothing obvious to pick at. However, I am not sure of the exact procedure, and I am not sure if it can be performed on all comb types, or only single. The birds I am considering dubbing exhibit, respectively, large rose comb, pea comb, and walnut-esque comb. The two Silkies show single comb, but I'm at the point where I have no interest in keeping them, and the only reason they are around is because my mother thinks they are pretty, despite being entirely useless and, in my opinion, rather bland. So I will attempt to convince her to let me make soup of them before I go through the hassle of dubbing.
These are the cockerels I have in mind. (Old pictures from before they were rounded up into the roo pen, so no scabby combs)
