Today after I got my 3 month old pullets into their coop for the night I noticed one of them was sneezing uncontrollably. My pullets have been vaccinated and have never come into contact with diseased chickens as far as I know. I take good care of my chickens, they get fresh food and water twice a day, I clean their coop once a week, rake out their runs daily, and they get to free range during the day. I'm not sure if my chicken has a fatal disease or just a common cold. I just noticed this, she wasn't sneezing this morning. I'm thinking its the first signs of a sickness. Please help!

It may be something in the environment that's causing the sneezing. She might've inhaled feed dust, dusty bedding or ammonia fumes from soiled bedding, inadequate ventlation, pollen, mold or fungal spores, pesticide use, DE etc...all can cause sneezing.

Is her eye or nostrils bubbling or running? Just sneezing doesn't always mean they're sick, as dawg said. Could be irritation from the environment. Keep an eye on her, and see if she stops in different circumstances.

OK thank you, the pen is pretty dusty sometimes. She looks perfectly healthy and her breathing is not ragged. Thanks for the advice

Yes, you guys were right, she's not sick. I'll try to water down the pen so it's not as dusty.

This will most likely be an ongoing problem. The key is to keep everything as dry as possible when it comes to chicken keeping. I recommend that you put sand in your pen, about 5 to 6 inches deep. It wont wash away like dirt when it rains and dries quicker, no mudpuddles. It's easier to scoop poop. Think beach.

Hi, I have a sneezing chicken. No other symptoms, laid an egg this morning.
I gave her an oral drench of RX Vet and some electrolytes.

We have had about 12+ inches rain. My backyard is a mud pile. I have new straw that I laid to help with the mud. I just laid down lime last week ( suppose to be natural deterrent to coccidiosis that I also have). Also added some compost material with lime.

So my girls have had wet feet for about 5 weeks.

No one else is sneezing. She is a 4 yr old Easter egger.
What else can I do for her? I tried to quarantine her but that had her so stressed out, I let her out. Of course it was 95 degrees today and I didn't want her to stroke out.

Other suggestion?

Thanks Marlene
