I've used pine and hay for bedding. I have layers of both and then pick up what's dirty and replace. What have you learned from quail bedding?
 
Many peeps keep their quail on 1/4 inch hardware cloth floors. They just rake out the gumdrops as they fall below. Quail do not need nests to lay eggs in.

Oh I know that. But keeping them just one hardware cloth will eventually tear their feet up and cause infection. I've seen it happen.
