I've used pine and hay for bedding. I have layers of both and then pick up what's dirty and replace. What have you learned from quail bedding?

Many peeps keep their quail on 1/4 inch hardware cloth floors. They just rake out the gumdrops as they fall below. Quail do not need nests to lay eggs in.

Oh I know that. But keeping them just one hardware cloth will eventually tear their feet up and cause infection. I've seen it happen.

When you've gotta clean it when do you do? Just grab out the bad parts are refill the whole thing?

I completely empty the house once a week and I turn over the bark clippings weekly as well ! X

Does this keep the smell down pretty well? I plan on keeping my quail on a raised garden bed and rotating annually between two beds.

Yeah I don't notice any smell but I only had 7 quail 5 now I haven't added any LABS that is suggested for true deep litter ! X
