can anyone tell me why my conure keeps putting her food into her water dish ?? I change water 2xs a day as it gets dirty

perhaps she is looking for some fresh greens? they do like their sprouts. try taking some seed and let it sit for 24 hrs, drain the water off and another 24 rinse and feed her like that. its a great treat and may stop the behavior

My Lovebirds all do this. It seems they like everything dunked in water. It makes a huge mess, but I let them do it. Changing the water becomes a labor of love.

The short answer is that wet food tastes better, and they learned how to get it that way. My DYH amazon has been doing the same thing for years with his pellets and some dry treats -- pick up a piece, walk over to the water, dip it, then eat it. I change the water in the morning when I uncover him, and once again when I get home from work (if I see food in there). Rather than try to change the habit, accept that it will happen and proceed accordingly.
