Can I use 2x2 &3x3 roosts in a

2x4 should be fine,my nest boxes are off of the floor,dont know of anybody keeping them on the floor.

2x2 is actually 1.5 so chicken could probably wrap it's feet around it. Don't think 3x3 would work very well though. We also use 2x4s and just round the corners a little so they are not sharp.

Don't know about nesting box being on floor, but when we have one hen isolated from the others, she does lay her eggs in a pet carrier that we have sitting on the ground.

2x2s work well for roosts. I have my nest boxes one the floor. Works fine for me. Also they don't try and roost in the nest boxes, filling them with poo.
