I have a detached garage that is actually more of a garden storage space, meaning I don’t really use it for a garage. I’ve been trying to convert it into a chicken coop. Seeking feedback on what more you would add, improvements, etc... the floor is concrete. It is about 9 feet high, 15 feet long, and 7 feet wide. 12 nesting boxes, roosting space (which I’ll also add to a different corner.) There is an attached run and the chickens also free range for a few hours a day. Currently we have 4 regular hens, 1 bantam hen, and 4 chicks inside in the brooder. Chicks will never be raised in this space. Our main predators here are coyotes, raccoons, birds of prey, and rats. So far (knock on wood) I’ve never had an issue with any. I am in the Pacific Northwest so fairly moderate climate. I’ll try to keep posting pics as progress is made. :) First pic is original garage.

My mud room is my chicken coop, and all I did was cover the floor (dirt) with a tarp and nailed up some 2x4’s for perches, and gave them buckets and pet carriers for nests, and they’ve lived fine with that. Yours looks great though, might just have to fancy up mine :thumbsup

Very nice to have that detached garage. The concrete floor is awesome for keeping things OUT!

It looks like the nesting boxes are quite high and seem to be higher or even with the roosts. I would lower them, as you want the birds to roost on the roosts and not the nest boxes (poopy eggs!) You also only need 1 nest box per 3 or 4 chickens, so no need for 12 unless you plan on greatly expanding your flock. The nest boxes look like a good size.

Good luck!

I can definitely lower them! Good thinking. Currently my nesting boxes are low and they refuse to lay in them. They lay in they up high coop and poop in the nesting boxes. Yuck. I do plan on increasing the chickens to 12-16 eventually. I thought 6 boxes would be plenty originally. Thanks!
