I'll have to measure when I get home, but I have shelving in one corner of my garage. I'm thinking I can put chicken wire (or hardware cloth or something) on the long side of the shelf and plywood on the short end with nest boxes and a chicken door. Thoughts? I was going to convert a dog house but I think this might be a better idea.

I'm having trouble picturing this. Do you have enough wood in the shelving to build a coop big enough to house a dozen (or more) chickens, or do you mean using some of the wood as part of a new coop? Maybe after you measure, you could also post a picture of the shelving, and more description of what you're planning to do.

It's hard to explain. Its a large shelf, probably close to 11'x4'x4'. Considering I'm getting my eggs shipped I have to assume a 50% hatch rate, and then there's a good chance 50% will be Roos, so that seems like more than enough space for 2-6 birds.

Although I'm new to all this so I may be wrong. I'll have to draw it out for you tomorrow. I won't be able to get exact measurements until the 15th, though I suppose I could have my husband measure just so I can have some idea. He's about as non-handy as they get though.
