Buttercup, the head hen in charge of our tiny EE flock, has started... Cooing at me, and only me when i go in the yard, even if Hubby or our son Moose is with me. It's not much of a coo, but a very soft hoo sound, it's almost as though she's softly singing to me. Has anyone else hard of this our have a chicken that does this?

My chickens make all kinds of noises...and I talk back to them too.

Each bird is unique. I had one that talked to me when I said "chee, chee, chee." She would drop whatever and come running.

I have a couple of birds coo at me in little trills...and I trill back.

They have an amazing array of noises that mean something in the chicken world, which I haven't quite figured out yet.

I do know my broody hens will "chook chook chook" to their babies when they call them to food.

As long as she doesn't act sick or look sick, as sometimes "nicking" and a weird little "coo" can be a sign of respiratory illness, just have fun with her.
