Coons or coyotes

ive been having a few chickens go missing lately (30-35) and found some scat today and on my way back to the house my boy found hair by my garage. The hair is coon hair but there is no evidence left behind from a coon. All of the chickens have vanished. I don’t see feathers, heads, or partial chickens anywhere and that’s usually what coons do?? Coyotes kill and take there prey somewhere to eat. The scat has feathers in it so I set coon traps out today.
I have also lost 1 teminnick targopan pheasant but I think that was a weasel because there were small round holes dug. No coon got in there.
What do you guys think??

You have had 30-35 birds go missing and you haven’t set up a game cam yet?!
I’m not sure what it is, but the raccoon hair is more evidence than most get. Animals don’t always do what we think they’re supposed to do.

I don't have experience with raccoons but that scat looks just like the coyote scat I've found next to my coop.

I’m not sure what it is, but the raccoon hair is more evidence than most get. Animals don’t always do what we think they’re supposed to do.

Well at first I thought my boys just ran the chicks off. They were a few months old and they always chase them so thought they were lost out in the wheat field but now my big hens are gone so now I know something is up.

Maybe a coyote killed a raccoon. What a twist!

But seriously, game cams are invaluable. It’s crazy to see what prowls around at night. It’s hard to speculate what happened with limited information.

I know I’m sorry. I will be putting a cam out tonight. If I wouldn’t of rained I would of set some coyote traps but will wait till tomorrow now

You may have coons involved in the disappearance of some of your chickens, but most likely you have coyote and or Fox, grab and run. less evidence left. well fed predators feeding their young.

Oh don’t be sorry, not your fault! We’ve all played the predator guessing game at some point or another. It gets very frustrating trying to piece clues together.
